Ryan is a grandson of Scout and a son of Liberty (Scout/Casey). I always had a very special place in my heart for Liberty, especially after having her with me until she was 9 1/2 months old as we waited for her to be able to go to her home in England. So when Liberty's owner (Marion Kong) said she was thinking about breeding Liberty, I said I would be interested in a pup. She bred Liberty to William, a wonderful boy. I went over to England on June 24, 2010 to see the litter of 3 girls and 3 boys. They were all wonderful, incredibly outgoing and beautiful. Marion did an incredible job raising the litter. It was a very tough choice as I could have been happy with any of the pups. I wanted a boy and decided on the green boy when he did a fabulous retrieve for me and totally turned on for me while his littermates were playing loudly just on the other side of a fence. It worked out great as the blue boy (now Buzz) was the boy who tugged on Marion's heart strings. I feel very fortunate to have Ryan.
Ryan was an amazing pup on the flight from the UK to the US and slept the whole way. When I got him home and he met Jeff, he wagged his tail and he gave him lots of kisses. He has handled the transition beautifully. The other dogs love him and he really loves them. He is also very good with our cats and he has become the dog of choice for our cat Butch to have his ears cleaned.
I'm having a blast with Ryan. He is a real character and he makes me laugh a lot. He is very outgoing, confident and very play motivated. I have done a lot of training with Ryan. He loves to learn and he learns everything so quickly. We are competing in agility and he has also earned his rally novice title and his companion dog (CD) title in regular obedience. In addition to his training, I did a lot of socialization with Ryan and it shows in his confidence to handle any situation. I also think he is very handsome and I think he maturing very nicely. He has a beautiful, thick, dark coat. He has a lovely head, nice angulations, and nice rear and front. He moves beautifully. Ryan finished his breed championship on May 26, 2012 with a 4-point major. He was shown on a limited basis. I am now starting to show him as a special on a limited basis due to all of the other activities we do.
Ryan's mother, Liberty, is the first Irish Water Spaniel in the United Kingdom to have earned her agility warrant bronze, silver and gold awards. Ryan is continuing Liberty and his grandmother's (Scout) love for the agility game. He has earned his master standard, master jumpers, master Fast, and Time2Beat agility titles. Ryan he finished 2012 ranked as the #6 IWS in agility. Not too bad considering we didn't get into the master's level until May 2012. He finished #5 IWS in 2013 and #3 in 2014. He earned his MACH on March 7, 2015. He is a blast and he always runs with so much joy and happiness.
Ryan earned his junior hunt test (JH) title on June 13, 2015 which also earns him the IWSCA all-around title and Quintessential award.
Ryan is OFA Hips Good, Elbows Normal, Shoulders Normal, Thyroid Normal, Cardiac Normal and CERF clear. CHIC #82166
